I've been listening to Barack's "lipstick" comment, trying to decide if he meant something by it. It doesn't really matter now.
His response to the press is very telling. His options:
1. Do nothing and keep campaigning.
2. Apologize for saying something that he should have thought about a little more.
3. Rip the media for covering it and slam your opponent.
In my mind, the best option would have been number two. The controversy would have died down, he would have appeared conciliatory, and everyone would move on.
He chose number three.
Keep in mind, Barack Obama won the nomination by using a positive message of hope and change, rarely slamming his opponent. He's discarded that playbook. Every clip I see now is whiny, gripey, negative.
Our prospects are good.
