Fremont County Commissioners want to give themselves an 18% raise. The Post Register had the story this morning.
I have an idea... when elected officials want a pay raise, we should treat it like a bond election... it has to be approved by the voters. The only obstacle is that the "pay-raise" election would likely cost more than the pay raise, so that's probably out.
I also think that if elected officials vote themselves too big a pay raise, they also vote themselves a termination notice. The common folk are already paying plenty with higher fuel and grocery costs... we don't need to pay for more expensive commissioners too.
