Democrats get all churchy all of a sudden

I'm about to say something that might be offensive, but I feel driven to say something after seeing this story about the Dems holding prayer and scripture time to open their convention.

Now for the offensive part. Conservatives, in many cases, are driven by religion to push for societal change, using politics. It seems to me that the reverse might be true for liberals, who appear driven by politics to use religion - if it suits them this particular election - to push for societal change. They were the ones four years ago warning the world of the religious right. There's likely a poll somewhere telling them that religious expression will appeal to a yet-to-be-won constituency. So, bring in the choir, baby!
