Offier lies about shooting

This is a strange story, and we're all curious why officer Lane Sommer lied about being shot at, at his Madison County home, and also getting a number of death threats. On one hand, I guess we're all relieved to find out that the maniacal killer he described isn't really out there, but on the other hand, why would an officer of the law concoct this story? In the coming weeks I'm sure we'll learn more and get some answers about this case.
