Wednesday NLS **Religion Alert**

There's been an issue that's been bothering me for some time, but I've been reluctant to bring it up because it's uncomfortable. I'm devout LDS and I have plenty of friends both in and out of my faith, and beyond knowing that religion can often cause division, I think in East Idaho perhaps it's a bigger issue than we'd like to admit.

So, in the spirit of having a good healthy and productive discussion, we're going to talk about how religion shapes our relationships with other members of the community.

I have a very good friend here at work who is not LDS, and she shares her frustration trying to raise her kids in a predominantly LDS community. We'll talk about fears, frustrations, concerns, and hopes. While we certainly aren't going to make all the problems go away, maybe we can come just a little closer to each other.

Don't miss this show.

When I was a child, I was at summer school at BYU. There was a playmate who was a southern baptist boy who one day fell down a flight of stairs and was banged up pretty bad. Through his tears he blurted out the the S*** word. Instead of me and my LDS friends comforting him, we turned our backs on him in self righteous indignity. That poor boy was alone for the rest of the summer as we all discriminated against him for what he said. Now, 40 years later I am so ashamed of what we did. If I knew where to find him I would beg his forgiveness. We were wrong. I pray that he has forgiven us for our insensitive cruelty.
