Who says we don't need the 2nd Amendment?

The good guy in this story is seriously wounded, but when the bad guy gets what's coming... there's a twisted sense of satisfaction. These are the stories liberals HATE to have reported.

Cell phone-only use growing in Idaho

Have you gone wireless exclusively at your house? A growing number of Idaho households -- more than one in five, in fact -- have said goodbye to the good ol' fashioned land line. Are you among them? Among the many topics on ADD Friday, I'll ask you about your cell phone habits and why you have or haven't gotten rid of the old line and the bill that comes with it.

Taking a "bite" out of crime...

Things seem to get a little out of hand on St. Patrick's Day, apparently. Merie McAskill (the fact that she's Irish makes this story even funnier) apparently started arguing with the bartender at Muddy's in Idaho Falls. When Miss McCaskill was being escorted out of the bar, she -- like a good drunk Irishwoman -- bit the bartender. There was some peripheral scratching and hair-pulling as well. As other customers came to the bartender's aid to help this woman out of the bar, she bit them too. One on the arm, and another female customer on the breast. (I'm not a woman, but OUCH! that mus hurt).

I think we found Mike Tyson's next girlfriend.

And let me add this last little tidbit. Some dude at the bar felt a great sense of compassion for the woman's who's breast had been assaulted by Miss McCaskill's gnashing teeth. He began to take pictures... and now he's facing charges as well.

We'll try and keep y'all updated on the Muddy's Bar Breast Biter case.

Prolific legislation in the capitol

We have a whole slew of things to discuss on the NLS today, legislatively speaking. Lawmakers have been busy with bills that will:

Allow ISP's to be subpoenaed in child sex crimes
create a licensing board for driving schools
regulate school board declaring a fiscal emergency
reaffirm Idaho's sovereign rights
consolidate elections
allow pharmacists to refuse to sell certain meds

and more!

So we'll have a big day on the NLS today... be sure to join us!

Should pharmacists have the right to NOT sell a certain drug?

There's a great debate brewing over a bill being pushed by Representative Tom Loertscher, chairman of the House State Affairs Committee. He wants to ensure that pharmacists can exercise their consciences by not dispensing drugs they find objectionable (i.e. Viagra, Birth Control, RU486).

Right now Idaho law does not prohibit pharmacists from refusing to dispense drugs, but Loertscher wants to codify the right not to.

This smells like a FlashPoll!

Me? This is America, and you have the right to sell or not sell any legal product. Furthermore, with prescription drugs available through the mail, and at competing pharmacies, I don't fully understand why anyone would have a problem with it. Let pharmacists decide what drugs they do or don't offer, then let the chips fall where they will. Does anyone honestly think someone's going to go without birth control or Viagra -- if they truly want it -- simply because a pharmacist decides he doesn't want to sell a certain drug?

This is a similar debate to President Obama wanting to take away a doctor's right to refuse to administer an abortion.

Why is it that the left wants to force professionals to offer services that some consider objectionable?

Does a bookstore have the right to not sell the Bible? Can a grocery store choose to not sell beer and wine? Would it be OK if a restaurant said that they've decided to stop offering Kosher meals?

The answer to all of these questions, definitively, is absolutely.

Birth control, Viagra, RU486 -- last time I checked aren't generally necessary to save a life, and will remain widely available even if some pharmacies decline to offer them. They are largely considered "lifestyle" drugs. So what if a pharmacist decides they don't want to sell them?

Some seem bent on subduing what is clearly our national legacy of freedom and liberty to achieving a social utopian agenda. How sad. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Can't win for losin'

I made my very first post at IdahoFallsToday.com at the request of a friend. I thought that since I was doing a show with Post Register Publisher Roger Plowthow to talk about formidable challenges facing the newspaper industry, I would post about that. Without any sense of malice or attempt to sensationalize I half-thinkingly authored the headline "Is the Post Register dying?"

Roger Plowthow saw the post and was clearly not happy about the word "dying" in the headline. He commented on the post expressing his disappointment. I don't fault him.. he's simply looking out for his paper. But I felt a need to clarify why I used the words I used. (We have since exchanged conciliatory emails and we're good, I'm pretty sure.) Roger will still be on the program Thursday.

Despite my best attempts to apologize for not being clear and thoughtful, I've found that some (not Roger) are hell-bent on making sure the most despicable motivations are assigned to their political opponents.

Sometimes I think the tenor of today's public discourse is lamentable, when an absent-minded use of a word is so quickly assumed to be an attempt at malicious sensationalism.
