Caucus vs. Primary

So why is it called the Iowa caucus, and not the Iowa primary? Because the process is different, even if the goal is the same -- to identify the state's national delegates. Here's some background info. A couple of interesting facts: The winner of the Iowa caucus (in contested races) goes on to win the nomination about half the time. Also, the winner of the Iowa straw poll in August has gone on to win the Iowa caucus every time, except for in 1987. Mitt Romney won the straw poll this year, FYI.
